COMMITTED TO INFORMING YOUNG PEOPLE’S CHOICES AROUND GAMBLING AND GAMING

                           

Racing to School’s Programmes are designed to support young people’s learning, although specific information about gambling is not included in our course materials used by school and college groups during our racecourse-based activity days. However, we believe it is responsible for organisations like ourselves that work within the horseracing industry to acknowledge the harms that can be caused by problem gambling and the role the sport can play to inform young people’s choices. At Racing to School, we are conscious of our unique role as both an education provider and in arranging a first experience of horseracing for many of our beneficiaries.

Collaboration with specialists

We are pleased to have worked with the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) since 2019. YGAM is a national charity with a social purpose to inform, educate, safeguard and build digital resilience amongst young and vulnerable people. The charity aims to help their beneficiaries make informed decisions and understand the consequences around gambling and gaming.

YGAM achieves this through evidence-led, evaluated and accredited education programmes and resources for anyone who works with or cares for young and vulnerable people, including teachers, youth workers, community volunteers and mental health specialists. YGAM has also developed a leading-edge ‘Parent Hub’ for their website. The site provides resources and support around gaming and gambling for parents and carers, alongside a range of tools and activities for the whole family to build up their children’s resilience and establish a healthy online/offline balance.
