RAINBOW APPLAUSE CHARITY SUPPORTS RACING TO SCHOOL GROUPS WITH GENEROUS DONATION

The Rainbow Applause Charity Racing Club was set up to support charities during the Covid-19 pandemic through syndicate membership in Rainbow Applause – a one-eyed racehorse that was in training with Rebecca Menzies Racing. Racing to School was honoured to be one of the worthy causes supported when Rainbow Applause was retired from racing in the autumn of 2021. The donation of £2,500 is a significant boost towards our work inspiring young people’s learning through horseracing, and we are so grateful for the support.

Watch this short video of pupils from Caedmon Primary school in Gateshead attending a day at Newcastle races and the opportunity to visit Rebecca Menzies’s yard:

The children loved their visit to Howe Hills yard to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes training racehorses. The team were very generous with their time and energy, providing the pupils with lots of opportunities to ask questions and explore new ideas, captured in this video:

Regional Programme Officer Carrie Ford tells us: “This was a real eye-opening experience for the pupils. It was the first time many of them had ever been so close to a horse, let alone a large number of racehorses all in one place. The racecourse visit was a maths-based day, with educational activities around the course, including the parade ring and track, designed to improve their confidence and application in this subject.

“Their visit to the yard extended this numeracy-focused learning, but also helped to build their confidence around animals and understand what it’s like to work in a yard environment. The team were so generous with their time, and the children were that busy with activities and helping with chores that there was no danger of them getting cold!

A busy and interactive day of learning at Howe Hills Stables

“Caedmon Primary is an inner-city school within a deprived area, so we know just how grateful these young people are for the opportunity to visit new places and learn outside of the classroom. I’m certain that they’ll remember their time at Howe Hills Stables and Newcastle Racecourse for many years to come.”
