Michael Andrews appointed as new Chairman of Racing to School

Taking time out at the busiest time of year for any retailer, Director of Buying at Waitrose & Partners Michael Andrews has one eye on the exciting challenge of leading the charity Racing to School from next year. The new Chairman replaces David Adam, who will remain on the board as a valued Trustee.

Michael has been involved in racing as a Steward at Ascot, Goodwood and Plumpton; he is also a Committee member of the Royal Ascot Racing Club and owns shares in both Flat and National Hunt horses. Michael recently served as Chairman of The Prince’s Countryside Fund Raceday, raising £1.4m over four years.

“It is an honour to take over the reins from David Adam, whom I have the pleasure to work with as a Trustee at Racing to School and a Steward. We share with the staff a vision to improve the education and opportunities for the 14,000-plus young people who benefit from the work of the charity,” said Michael.

“My fellow Trustees and I will remain true to the values of the charity and look forward to engaging and supporting the positive impact that our Programme and racing offers young people across the country.”

With the support of schools, colleges and Pony Clubs, Racing to School reached a record 14,000 young people in 2018 and, with the generous support of funders and partners, has ambitious plans to increase this further next year.
