HWPA to support Racing to School at the 2017 Annual Awards Event

The education charity Racing to School is delighted to announce that the Horserace Writers & Photographers Association has decided to support its unique work with young people at its prestigious annual awards event.

Marcus Townend, President of the HWPA, said: “I am delighted that Racing to School has been chosen as the charity associated with this year’s annual HWPA lunch on December 4. Our members are well acquainted with the great work of Racing to School, its educational benefits and the positive image it projects of the sport.”

Racing to School is the smallest charity working across the racing industry and relies solely on voluntary donations to continue to plan and deliver free, nationwide Programmes, many of which are hosted at racecourses. This year’s activity will consist of over 300 events and a record engagement of 13,000 young people.

“The HWPA committee felt that Racing to School would be a hugely appropriate charity for us to support this year as we aim to make our annual lunch, which is sponsored by Qatar Racing & Equestrian club, another success,” added Townend.

John Blake from Racing to School said: “There is a strong and natural link between the work of Racing to School and the HWPA, with all forms of media being a gateway to learning, and a source of inspiration for young people. The charity is very grateful to the HWPA and its sponsor for this opportunity to work together at such a respected event, and in the 90th year since the Association was founded.”
